Animal farm was written by George Orwell in 1945. The genre of this book is political fantasy.
It all starts with and large boar named old major giving a speech about a rebellion against the humans because he has had enough, all the animals are fed up of being over worked and under fed. It was not long after this idea was put in to their minds that the opportunity came about for them to fight back. It happened one cold evening when their cruel master came staggering home from the pub and forgot to feed them what little food they usually got, this was the last straw for the animals who charged at Jones and his men chasing them away for what they hoped was forever. For sometime after they seemed to manage but then the pigs got a taste of power and the farm and its animals were fighting for survival.
The story is set in a run down little farm in the country it has lots of land, a farmhouse and many barns and out buildings in need of repair which the animals inhabit.
All the animals have different personalities, the main characters are:
Napoleon: is a greedy self centred pig who chooses to lead the other animals, here is a stereo typical power seeking baddy. I do not like this character as he is very unkind and cunning.
Snowball: is also a very cunning and clever pig but uses it more the benefit of the others as he tries to do good.
Boxer: is a kind very hard working horse who sadly is not very clever but tries to do right and is always trying to work harder.
Clover: is a kind motherly horse who looks after the other animals as best she can, she can feel that something is not right but is not always clever enough to understand exactly what is happening.
Squealer: is a very persuasive pig who does the biding of Napoleon and makes sure the animals sty on line. Like all the other pigs he is very cunning and clever.
This book is trying to portray the feel of power and it is based on the Russian political power struggle after the revolution. It is saying that is very hard to be powerful without loosing control. I think this is a important message as it makes me feel anxious about how quickly things can change.
I think this film was aimed at young adults and above as it is quite complicated and dark and almost scary and upsetting but it does have an important message.
I did enjoy it only it did creep me out a bit. It affected because it made m feel sad and scared and annoyed that this could have happened I could it was great but it definitely was not bad.
